IAF showcases MiG-29 and Jaguar aircraft in joint air combat training with 11 other nations including France, Germany, and Australia
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has joined Exercise Desert Flag-10, a major multinational air combat training drill being hosted by the United Arab Emirates from April 21 to May 8, 2025. This high-profile exercise brings together air forces from 12 nations including Australia, Bahrain, France, Germany, and Qatar, reported airforce-technology.com.
The IAF’s participation highlights India’s growing defence collaboration and operational readiness on the global stage.
To mark its presence, the IAF has deployed its MiG-29 and Jaguar aircraft for the exercise. The MiG-29 is equipped for aerial engagements and ground attacks, boasting short and medium-range air-to-air missiles, unguided rockets, bombs up to 3,000kg, and a powerful 30mm onboard gun.
Meanwhile, the Jaguar fighter—known for its deep strike capabilities—features a combat radius of 908km and a top speed of 1,699 km/h. The aircraft remains an integral part of the IAF’s operational fleet and is expected to serve until 2034.
Desert Flag-10 aims to boost interoperability, tactical knowledge exchange, and defence diplomacy among participating nations
The Indian Ministry of Defence emphasized that the exercise is vital for improving joint operational capabilities and deepening defence ties with like-minded countries. A statement from the MoD read: “The IAF’s participation underscores India’s commitment to strengthening defence ties and interoperability with friendly nations in the region and beyond.”
This edition builds on the success of Desert Flag-9, which featured 10 countries and 12 different airframes. The latest participation also comes on the heels of India’s major defence procurement initiative involving 156 Prachand light combat helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautics—66 for the IAF and 90 for the Indian Army.
