The White House has named Indian American Neera Tanden its new staff secretary, giving the longtime Democratic operative an influential role with close proximity to President Joe Biden, the Bloomberg reported.

“The Staff Secretary role is the central nervous system of the White House and moves the decision-making process and manages a wide variety of issues for the President,” a statement from White House said.

She is currently serving as a senior advisor to US president Joe Biden.

Her position of staff secretary is important due to the fact that the office performs key role in American President’s administration including control over flow of papers in and out of the Oval Office

The White House statement called Tanden’s economic, national security and domestic policy expertise an asset in her new role.

Her position of staff secretary is important due to the fact that the office performs a key role in the American President’s administration including control over flow of papers in and out of the Oval Office.

In a recent event of the Indian American community, held in September, Tanden had said representation of Indian Americans in the political sphere was necessary.

The event was hosted by Indiaspora on 28 September. “It is critical to have Indian-Americans at the table, contributing, involved and engaged in helping make decisions,” she said.
