Indian American Shrina Kurani appointed deputy director at California’s Ibank

Kurani will lead venture capital initiatives to support California’s innovation economy and economic development

The California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank (IBank) has announced the appointment of Indian American Shrina Kurani as Deputy Director of Venture Capital. In this role, she will oversee IBank’s venture capital investments, driving economic growth and fostering innovation across California’s startup ecosystem, according to a press release by the bank, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

A Leader in Venture Capital and Sustainability

Kurani brings extensive experience in venture capital, sustainability, and business development. Since 2023, she has worked as a venture specialist at IBank, focusing on funding opportunities for high-growth startups and emerging industries.

“Shrina’s expertise in venture capital and her passion for fostering innovation make her an invaluable addition to IBank’s leadership team,” said Scott Wu, IBank’s Executive Director. “Her strategic insight and commitment to economic development will help drive investments that strengthen California’s position as a global leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.”

A Background Rooted in Innovation and Climate Advocacy

Born to Indian immigrant parents in Riverside, California, Kurani holds a Master of Science in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science from Lund University and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Riverside.

She has dedicated her career to advancing climate science and developing technology to combat the climate crisis. Her professional experience includes serving as Vice President of Business at Republic, helping democratize startup investing, and as CEO of FoodNest. Since 2022, she has been a managing partner at SNØCAP, an early-stage investment firm, and previously worked as an associate at Better Ventures, focusing on mission-driven investments.
