Indian-American tech builds private island for startup founders using Bitcoin

Balaji Srinivasan launches ‘Network School’ near Singapore to create a futuristic community of tech-driven minds

A real-life “startup island” powered by tech innovation, fitness, and Bitcoin? That’s exactly what Indian-American entrepreneur and investor Balaji Srinivasan has created near Singapore — a bold step in his vision of building a “Network State” , reported gujaratsamachar.com.

Described by Instagram user Nick Peterson as an “oasis for gym rats and startup founders,” the island is home to Network School, an experimental, invitation-only educational programme launched by Srinivasan. It aims to bring together techno-optimists, creators, and builders in a highly curated community focused on growth — both personal and professional.

“This week I had group workouts every morning… classes with over 40 people, talks by Balaji on AI, and a field trip to the Super AI Conference,” Peterson shared. “We also had a weekend-long sports tournament and deep conversations with insanely interesting people.”

The initiative includes three healthy meals a day, structured learning, and access to like-minded pioneers, all part of a self-sustaining ecosystem that blurs the lines between learning, living, and building the future.

The Man Behind the Island

Balaji Srinivasan, born to physician parents from Tamil Nadu, is a Stanford PhD in Electrical Engineering and a noted figure in the global tech community. He has held leadership roles as CTO at Coinbase, and co-founded multiple startups including Earn.com, Counsyl, Teleport, and Coin Centre.

Now an angel investor, Srinivasan is using the power of Bitcoin and decentralised community-building to realise his vision of a “Network State” — described as:

“A highly aligned online community with a capacity for collective action that crowdfunds territory around the world and eventually gains diplomatic recognition from pre-existing states.”

What is Network School?

The Network School is a launchpad for global thinkers who are committed to shaping the startup society of the future. It’s positioned as more than a learning space — it’s a prototype of a cloud-first, borderless community that blends blockchain, remote work, fitness, and intellectual depth.

Membership begins at $1,500/month (shared housing), including accommodation, meals, and amenities. The school caters to long-term pioneers looking to co-create and lead a radical new model for global citizenship.
