A devastating explosion at the Mtibwa Sugar Factory in Tanzania on Thursday morning resulted in the deaths of 11 workers, including three foreign nationals, local police reported. The incident, triggered by an electrical short circuit, caused a steam pipe to burst as the technical team was preparing the machines for the day’s production, media reports said.

Regional police chief Alex Mkama identified the foreign victims as hailing from Kenya, Brazil, and India. Two additional workers sustained injuries and received initial treatment at Morogoro Hospital before being transferred to the capital, Dodoma, for further medical care, AP quoted Dr. David Ruchamisa, who oversaw their initial treatment, as saying.
