The sixth India-Arab Partnership Conference held recently in New Delhi concluded with the announcement of the “Delhi Declaration,” paving the way for the activation of a Joint Arab-Indian Chamber of Commerce. The Declaration highlighted the evolving relationship between India and the Arab countries, emphasizing the potential for substantial development and sustainable economic growth through mutual collaboration.

During the conference, which spanned two days, ministers, senior officials, and businesspersons from Arab States and India participated in extensive brainstorming sessions under the auspices of the India-Arab Partnership Conference. The event marked the culmination of efforts that began with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Arab League and India in December 2008, leading to the establishment of an Arab-Indian Cooperation Forum. This forum organizes the conference alternatively in India and an Arab country.

The proposal for the Joint Arab-Indian Chamber of Commerce was formulated during a prior session of the India-Arab Partnership Conference in Muscat. The Delhi Declaration underscored the significance of close collaboration between India and the Arab countries across various sectors of mutual interest. The new chamber is set to serve as a crucial platform to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and expertise.

With the activation of the Joint Arab-Indian Chamber of Commerce on the horizon, both India and the Arab nations are poised to embrace a new phase of economic collaboration and development, working hand in hand to achieve their shared goals

Indian Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, and Dr. Ali Ibrahim Al Malki, Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Economic Affairs Section at the General Secretariat of the Arab League, led the conference on the Indian and Arab sides, respectively.

“The member states of the Arab League continue to play an important role in the international economic arena and offer many opportunities for economic partnership,” the Delhi Declaration stated. Additionally, the conference participants lauded India’s Group of Twenty (G20) Presidency and expressed their support for India’s hosting of the G20 summit scheduled for September 2023. India’s active role through the G20 in addressing critical global economic issues such as international financial stability, climate change mitigation, sustainable development, resilient supply chains, and economic decentralization received applause from the attendees.

The next Arab-Indian Partnership Conference is scheduled to take place in Jordan in 2025, providing further opportunities for strengthening economic ties and fostering fruitful partnerships between India and Arab countries.
