According to reports, false online accusations claimed the man had been “behaving inappropriately around children.”

These unsubstantiated claims were widely shared by far-right and anti-immigrant social media accounts, further fuelling tensions

No evidence has surfaced to support these allegations
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation. Local councillor Baby Pereppadan visited the victim, noting that he was in deep shock and not speaking to visitors. Irish MP Paul Murphy called the assault “horrifying” and blamed not only the perpetrators but also those spreading racist lies online.
Indian Ambassador to Ireland, Akhilesh Mishra, took to X (formerly Twitter), expressing outrage at the media’s portrayal of the incident and thanking the Irish public and officials for their support.
Irish police appeal for public assistance
The Gardaí, Ireland’s National Police Service, has launched a full investigation. Authorities are appealing for witnesses, especially those with camera or dash-cam footage from the area between 6 pm and 7 pm on Saturday, to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Tallaght Garda Station at (01) 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station. Gardaí have also urged the public not to share or repost videos or images of the attack to protect the victim’s privacy.
