He noted the increasing involvement of Swiss small and medium enterprises in India, alongside multinational corporations. A two-term member of the Swiss Legislative Council from Chavornay in the Vaud state, Yellepeddi shared his insights at the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, highlighting the remarkable changes in India since his last visit in 2015. He was also set to meet the Indian delegation at the World Economic Forum in Davos to discuss increasing trade and investment ties.
The recent Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement signed in 2024 has been a key development, expected to unlock new opportunities in trade, manufacturing, and innovation, particularly with a focus on sustainability. Yellepeddi expressed his pride as a member of the Indian diaspora in Switzerland, noting that the agreement is the first Free Trade Agreement India has signed with a European Bloc.
He further highlighted the vital role of the Indian diaspora, especially highly qualified professionals, in contributing to the Swiss economy. The relationship between the two countries is expected to grow with an increasing number of Swiss companies, particularly in biotech, looking to invest in India.
