On Saturday (May 18,2024), Indian women residing in the UK gathered in traditional attire outside the UK Parliament, demonstrating cultural pride and political support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the general elections. These women, hailing from diverse regions including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, and Odisha, celebrated India’s democratic spirit in a unique way.

  • A notable moment of the event was a heartfelt poem recital, “Saugandh Mujhe Iss Mitti Ki,” by a woman from Modi’s constituency, Varanasi

  • A Tamil woman spoke about PM Modi’s historic visit to Jaffna—the first by an Indian Prime Minister—and discussed the Neighbourhood First policy, which has been crucial in aiding Sri Lanka’s economic recovery

Chanting slogans such as “Ab ki baar 400 paar” and “Har Har Modi, Ghar Ghar Modi,” the women proudly waved BJP flags in Parliament Square. Their enthusiastic display reflected their pride in India’s progressive journey and their desire for its continuation under PM Modi’s leadership.

The Overseas Friends of BJP UK (OFBJPUK) released a statement on Sunday, highlighting PM Modi’s role in elevating India’s global profile and instilling a deep sense of pride in the Indian identity. This pride was evident in the passionate speeches delivered by the women in their regional languages, urging fellow Indians to support the BJP in the 2024 elections. They believe their voices can significantly influence India’s future.
