India’s e-passports to roll out seamlessly in UAE
No extra fees or biometric hurdles for UAE applicants
Indian nationals in the UAE can now look forward to a smoother and more secure travel experience, as India prepares to roll out its new chip-enabled e-passports. The Indian Consulate in Dubai confirmed that the transition will be seamless — with no fee increase, no new biometrics, and no change in the current application process.
The e-passport will feature an embedded microchip storing encrypted personal data, including the holder’s name, date of birth, and photograph, following international ICAO standards. This digital upgrade will ensure quicker verification at airports and stronger protection against identity theft and forgery.
- Officials clarified that existing passport service centers, such as BLS International, will continue to handle applications
- The announcement brings clarity to thousands of Indian expatriates confused by online rumors suggesting added costs or technical hurdles
The e-passport aligns India with global digital travel documentation trends, improving border efficiency while maintaining convenience for applicants. “This initiative is about strengthening India’s digital security ecosystem, not changing how citizens apply,” consulate officials explained.
Beyond convenience, the new system marks a step forward in global connectivity and governance. It positions India among nations that have fully adopted electronic identification in travel documents, reflecting confidence in secure, modern infrastructure.
For millions of Indians abroad, the message is clear: your passport will soon be smarter, safer, and just as easy to obtain as before.
