The upgraded GPSP 2.0 system introduces chip-enabled e-passports and faster, more efficient processing for Indian expats in the UAE
The Embassy of India in Abu Dhabi has announced the rollout of an advanced online passport system under the Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP) 2.0. Beginning October 28, 2025, all Indian nationals in the UAE will be issued e-passports embedded with secure microchips, marking a significant technological leap in passport services, reported newsonair.gov.in.
Under the new system, applicants must access all passport-related services through the dedicated online portal at mportal.passportindia.gov.in/gpsp/AuthNavigation/Login. The e-passports, featuring embedded chips storing digitised holder information, are designed to speed up immigration clearance and align Indian travel documents with international biometric standards.
The new GPSP 2.0 portal aims to simplify the passport process, offering digital uploads and improved correction features for Indian expatriates
The platform also offers user-friendly options such as uploading ICAO-compliant photos, signatures, and supporting documents before appointments, helping reduce waiting times at service centres. The Embassy has urged applicants to use these pre-upload features for faster processing, with detailed photo guidelines available on its official website.
Additionally, GPSP 2.0 introduces a major convenience — BLS service providers can now make minor corrections to submitted applications without requiring complete resubmission. This new functionality addresses a long-standing pain point for applicants and comes at no extra cost.
The revamped system will impact all Indian expatriates in the UAE applying for new passports, renewals, or any other passport-related services, streamlining access and enhancing efficiency across the board.
