Crowd boos as Indian-origin Australian citizen speaks on immigration; viral video sparks debate online
An Indian man, who is an Australian citizen, was booed, heckled, and pushed off stage while addressing protestors at an anti-immigration rally in Australia. The incident, captured on video, has gone viral and triggered widespread debate on social media, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
The man was interrupted mid-speech as he defended immigration, before being shoved by a protestor.
In the video, an organiser introduces the man wearing a yellow jersey with “Australia” printed on it, saying, “Our next guest is a foreigner. He looks like a foreigner. And he said he wanted to speak… He’s just like me; he became a citizen.” The crowd immediately erupted in boos
Despite the hostility, the Indian man began his speech, stating, “Yes, I am a brown man. Yes, I am an immigrant from India. I came here for the right reasons. Immigration is about not taking but giving, not demanding but respecting.” However, as he criticised “open-door immigration policies” and urged for cultural integration, a protestor suddenly pushed him and grabbed the microphone.
Organisers on stage intervened to restrain the individual, and the video ends abruptly at that point.
The footage has drawn strong reactions online. While some condemned the heckling as “childish” and counterproductive to the protest’s goals, others defended stricter stances on immigration. However, several comments also carried racial slurs aimed at Indians, highlighting persistent racial tensions.
