Sai Varshith Kandula attempted to overthrow US government with Nazi-inspired plot
Sai Varshith Kandula, a 20-year-old Indian national from Missouri, has been sentenced to 96 months in federal prison for an attempted attack on the White House on May 22, 2023. Kandula aimed to overthrow the United States’ democratically elected government and establish a dictatorship inspired by Nazi ideology , reported gujaratsamachar.com.
Kandula’s actions included crashing a rented truck into White House barriers and brandishing a Nazi flag to intimidate and coerce the government.
The incident occurred when Kandula flew to Washington, D.C., on a one-way ticket, rented a truck, and drove to the White House perimeter. He struck the barriers at the intersection of H Street and 16th Street twice, sending pedestrians fleeing. The second collision disabled the truck, and Kandula displayed a red-and-white Nazi flag with a swastika. He was arrested on the spot by US Park Police and Secret Service officers.
A shocking act fueled by extremist beliefs
Investigators revealed that Kandula intended to gain access to the White House, eliminate key leaders, and seize power to establish himself as the head of a Nazi-inspired dictatorship. His goal was to dismantle the United States’ democratic government through intimidation and coercion.
Born in Chandanagar, India, Kandula was a lawful permanent US resident with a green card at the time of the attack. He pleaded guilty on May 13, 2024, to willful injury or depredation of US property. Along with the prison term, Kandula will serve three years of supervised release.
This case was investigated by the US Secret Service, FBI Washington Field Office, US Park Police, and MPD. It was prosecuted by Special Assistant US Attorney Alex Schneider and Assistant US Attorney Shehzad Akhtar.
