Indian Naval Ships INS Rana, a Guided Missile Destroyer, and INS Jyoti, a Fleet Tanker, arrived in Colombo and has participated in the 12th edition of the Sri Lanka-India Naval Exercise (SLINEX-25), scheduled from 14 to 18 August 2025. Conceptualised in 2005, SLINEX has grown into a key platform for strengthening maritime cooperation and interoperability between the two nations, reported tripurastarnews.com.

SLINEX-25 will be conducted in two phases — the Harbour Phase in Colombo from 14 to 16 August, followed by the Sea Phase from 17 to 18 August. The Sri Lankan Navy was represented by SLNS Gajabahu and SLNS Vijayabahu, both Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessels, with participation from Special Forces of both navies.

The exercise featured joint drills, professional exchanges, cultural activities, and advanced naval operations at sea

During the Harbour Phase, events include professional interactions, Subject Matter Expert Exchanges (SMEE), cultural and social engagements, yoga sessions, and sporting events, all aimed at deepening bonds of friendship and mutual understanding.

In the Sea Phase, naval drills covered gunnery firing, communication protocols, navigation, seamanship evolutions, Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS), and fueling at sea, enhancing joint operational capabilities.

The SLINEX series reflected the robust maritime partnership between India and Sri Lanka, aligned with India’s MAHASAGAR vision (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), reaffirming shared commitment to regional peace and maritime security.
