39-year-old Mehul Goswami accused of drawing two full-time salaries, costing taxpayers $50,000

A 39-year-old Indian-origin man, Mehul Goswami, has been arrested in New York for allegedly working two full-time jobs simultaneously — one for the New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) and another for GlobalFoundries, a semiconductor firm based in Malta, New York, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

According to a joint investigation by the New York State Inspector General’s Office and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Goswami was employed full-time by the state agency and working remotely when, in March 2022, he allegedly took on a second full-time role at GlobalFoundries during his state working hours.

Authorities say Goswami’s dual employment led to the misuse of $50,000 in taxpayer funds

Officials said the probe began after an anonymous tip alerted investigators that Goswami was “moonlighting” for a private company while still drawing a government salary.

Breach of Public Trust and Criminal Charges

Inspector General Lucy Lang denounced the alleged misconduct, calling it a “serious breach of public trust” and an “abuse of taxpayer resources.” She emphasized that public employees must act with “honesty, integrity, and commitment to their official duties.”

Goswami was taken into custody on October 15 by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and charged with grand larceny in the second degree, a Class C felony under New York law. If convicted, he faces up to 15 years in prison.

The Inspector General’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring accountability and ethical conduct among public employees, warning that misuse of public resources will not be tolerated.
