Parents of OpenAI whistleblower suspect foul play in their son’s death and call for an FBI investigation
An emotional video of Suchir Balaji’s father sharing his heartbreak has surfaced online, bringing new attention to the tragic case of the Indian-origin techie. Suchir’s father revealed that he was the last person to speak with his son before he was found dead in his San Francisco apartment. While police have ruled the death as a suicide, his parents firmly believe foul play was involved and have demanded an FBI investigation, reported hindustantimes.com.
“I trust the mom’s intuition. Moms just know,” netizens say as they rally behind the family’s fight for answers
In the video, Balaji Ramamurthy, Suchir’s father, said, “I was the last person to talk to him. He was happy, more, not depressed or anything. And it was his birthday week.” Adding to this, Suchir’s mother, Purnima, said, “He made plans to see us in January. That was the last phone conversation he had with anyone. He went into his apartment and never came out.” She also pointed out unsettling details about the scene: “There was no suicide note, and there was nobody else on the scene, but there were blood stains in the bathroom, signs of a fight.”
The family spoke during a vigil organized to honor the life of the 26-year-old, who had worked at OpenAI before leaving the company under controversial circumstances. Suchir had publicly accused OpenAI of copyright violations and described himself as a whistleblower. In October, he gave an interview to the New York Times expressing concerns that technologies like ChatGPT caused more harm than good to society. Tragically, he was found dead in his apartment on November 26 after his mother filed a missing person’s report.
Suchir’s death has sparked widespread concern and discussion online. One post read, “The suspicious circumstances around Suchir Balaji’s death—a whistleblower against OpenAI—are deeply troubling. No suicide note, signs of a struggle, and his recent happiness raise serious doubts.” Another commented, “This story is insane. I’m glad his parents are digging for the truth.”
According to the initial police report, officers and medics arrived to find a deceased adult male in what appeared to be a suicide. However, the family’s insistence on a deeper investigation, citing suspicious circumstances, has reignited interest in the case.
Suchir’s parents have reportedly hired a private investigator to uncover the truth behind their son’s untimely demise. The tech community, activists, and the general public continue to rally behind the grieving family, demanding transparency and justice.
