Indian-origin teens arrested in Canada for targeting 2SLGBTQ+ members in robbery scheme

Three Indian-origin teenagers have been arrested in Canada for allegedly posing as queer individuals on social media platforms to lure and violently rob members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, including South Asians. The Peel Regional Police (PRP) reported that these targeted attacks occurred in Brampton between April and May 2025, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

Victims were lured through fake identities, with some incidents involving firearms and violent assault.

The suspects arranged meetups under false pretenses and, upon meeting the victims, allegedly carried out armed robberies. Police believe the group specifically targeted South Asian individuals within the queer community, exploiting their vulnerability and trust.

On July 4, PRP officers executed search warrants across multiple locations in the Peel Region. Eighteen-year-old Hardil Singh Mehrok of Brampton was arrested along with two male youths, aged 16 and 17, whose names are protected under Canada’s Youth Criminal Justice Act

All three have been charged with two counts of kidnapping and three counts of robbery. They are currently in custody pending a bail hearing.

Search continues for fourth suspect; police urge more victims to come forward

A Canada-wide arrest warrant has also been issued for 20-year-old Preetpal Kooner of Mississauga, who faces the same charges.

Peel police suspect there may be additional victims—especially within the South Asian 2SLGBTQ+ community—who have not come forward due to fear or stigma. Authorities have assured potential victims that their identities and safety will be protected, and hate-motivated charges are actively being considered.
