Teacher assistant in North Carolina charged with assault after allegedly slashing husband’s neck during domestic argument
A 44-year-old Indian-origin woman, identified as Chandraprabha Singh, was arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina, after allegedly attacking her husband with a knife during a dispute over house cleaning. Singh, who works as a teacher assistant at Endhaven Elementary School, is accused of “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously” cutting her husband’s neck during the altercation on October 12, according to an arrest warrant cited by local media, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
Chandraprabha Singh has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and was initially denied bond before being released on a $10,000 bond with electronic monitoring.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Domestic Violence Unit, detectives questioned Singh at the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) before transferring her to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. Police said the case is being treated as a domestic violence incident.
The victim, identified as Arvind Singh, told police that his wife became angry because he had not cleaned the house and “purposely attacked him with the knife.”
However, Chandraprabha reportedly told investigators that the injury was accidental, claiming she was making breakfast when her husband offered to help. She said she turned around holding a knife and “accidentally” slashed his neck in the process.
Following her court appearance on October 13, the magistrate set her bond at $10,000, and she was assigned a public defender. Singh was later released from jail on Monday but ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and is prohibited from contacting the victim.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) confirmed that they are aware of the incident and are cooperating with authorities as the investigation continues.
