A viral video from a McDonald’s outlet in Oakville shows a White man hurling racist slurs at an Indian-origin employee, reigniting concerns over rising hate incidents against the Indian community in Canada
In yet another shocking instance of racial abuse against Indians abroad, a video showing a man directing hateful slurs toward an Indian-origin worker at a McDonald’s outlet in Oakville, Canada, has sparked outrage on social media, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
The disturbing clip, which surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) this week, shows a White man yelling, “Go back to your f*ing country, you stinky a** India,”** at a visibly shocked Indian-origin employee.
The video, reportedly recorded by an Indian-origin woman present at the scene, captures her confronting the abuser by asking, “Who are you to tell us to leave?” Instead of backing down, the man moves closer to the counter and repeats his racial slur at the employee, further aggravating the situation.
The clip quickly went viral online, drawing strong condemnation from Indian and Canadian social media users alike. However, the comment section also revealed a disturbing divide, with some individuals attempting to justify the man’s outburst through anti-immigrant rhetoric.
The viral incident has renewed debate over growing intolerance and anti-immigrant sentiment in Canada’s multicultural society
One user wrote, “We have millions of invaders in Canada now… Something like 7% of our population is Indian. Since 2012, it’s gone haywire. Many of them want free things and commit crimes.”
Yet, others were quick to call out the incident as unrepresentative of Canadian values, with one commenter adding, “It rarely happens in Canada. I’ve been here for 40 years and this is not who we are.”
Racist incidents involving Indian and South Asian workers have been on the rise in several parts of Canada, particularly amid heated debates around immigration levels and employment. Community leaders have repeatedly urged for stronger anti-hate measures and cultural awareness programs to address the growing hostility toward immigrants.
Authorities have not yet confirmed if any police action has been taken against the individual seen in the viral video.
