Admissions in Indian private schools in Dubai have experienced a remarkable upswing, witnessing an increase of nearly 9,000 students in the span of a year, according to the latest findings from the Emirate’s private education regulator. The 2022-23 academic year saw the student population in Indian private schools surge to 94,499, surpassing the previous year’s figure of 85,588, as reported by The National newspaper.
Rashmi Nandkeolyar, the Principal at Delhi Private School Dubai, attributed this surge to several factors, emphasizing the appeal of schools providing good value for money during the pandemic. “Because we had online classes, we could accommodate a few more pupils. Now we are at full capacity and we don’t have a single spot,” said Nandkeolyar. She further highlighted the attractiveness of Dubai as a safe haven, leading to an influx of people, with budget-friendly schools gaining particular traction.
Recent official data indicates a diverse student population in Dubai’s private schools, with 35% enrolled in UK schools, 26% in Indian schools, and 16% in US curriculum schools. In October, authorities reported an overall surge of 39,000 students in Dubai’s private school sector within a single year, with the total pupil enrollment reaching over 365,000, up from 326,000 in November 2022. The education regulator’s inspection results revealed positive trends, with four Indian schools advancing from acceptable to good, and none receiving lower ratings.
Delhi Private School and The Millennium School earned outstanding ratings for well-being, while Gems Modern Academy in Nad Al Sheba received an outstanding rating for inclusion. Abdulla Al Karam, Director General of the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), emphasized the city’s vision to become a global education destination and underscored the role of high-quality education in achieving economic and population growth targets.
Well-being took center stage in school inspections, with 29 Indian-curriculum schools receiving positive or improved rankings in this domain. According to the KHDA rankings, one Indian-curriculum school achieved an outstanding rating, ten were rated very good, fourteen were deemed good, and seven were marked as acceptable.
Gems Modern Academy has consistently held an outstanding ranking since 2011, a testament to its focus on well-being and commitment to both the Indian and IB curriculum, as noted by Nargish Khambatta, the school’s principal.
