Businessman accused of chasing, pepper-spraying, and assaulting a shoplifter in Louisville, Kentucky
Louisville, Kentucky: Kaushalkumar Patel, a 40-year-old Indian-origin businessman, is facing multiple charges, including kidnapping and second-degree assault, following an alleged incident involving a shoplifter near his store, E-Z Super Food Mart, in Louisville’s Taylor-Berry neighborhood, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
The incident, which occurred on October 6, 2024, reportedly began when Patel chased a shoplifter who fled the store. As per police reports, Patel and others pursued the accused thief in a van, pepper-sprayed him in the face, and later targeted his anus after pulling down his shorts.

Reports state that the alleged assault escalated further when Patel and his group took the shoplifter to a garage, where they allegedly punched and kicked him.
Patel was arrested on January 16, 2025, and charged with kidnapping, second-degree assault, and wanton endangerment. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and is currently being held at Louisville Metro Detention Centre on a $100,000 bond.
The next court hearing is scheduled for January 24, 2025.
