A 21-year-old Indian student has been arrested in North Carolina, USA, for allegedly impersonating a federal agent in a fraudulent scheme to dupe a 78-year-old woman out of her money, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

Kishan Kumar Singh arrested after arriving to collect money disguised as a ‘federal agent’

The accused, Kishan Kumar Singh, an international student from India, was taken into custody by the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) after the elderly victim reported suspicious phone calls from individuals claiming to be both sheriff’s deputies and federal agents.

According to the official statement from the Sheriff’s Office, the victim was falsely informed that her bank accounts were compromised and linked to criminal activity.

She was pressured into withdrawing a large sum of money for “safekeeping.” Deputies arrested Singh when he arrived at her residence to collect the money, falsely identifying himself as a federal officer.

Singh now faces serious felony charges, including Attempted Obtaining Property by False Pretenses and Exploitation of an Elder Adult. He is currently being held at the Guilford County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.

Local media reports also confirm that Singh had been residing in Cincinnati, Ohio on a student visa since early 2024.
