24-year-old professional’s tourist visa rejected despite stable job and high income
An Indian tech professional earning ₹16 lakh per annum at a US-based fintech firm shared on Reddit how her B2 tourist visa application was denied despite a stable career and strong financial standing. The 24-year-old said she had planned a solo trip to New York City during the holiday season, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
According to the woman’s post, she has been working with the fintech firm for the past two years and attended her visa interview this week. During the interaction, she told the officer she wanted to experience New York in the holiday season. The officer asked about her employment, salary, and whether she was travelling alone.
The visa officer rejected her application after noting her lack of international travel history and young age
When asked if she had prior international travel experience, she admitted this would have been her first trip abroad. Soon after, she was informed that her visa had been denied.
The techie speculated that her rejection was due to being too young and having no previous travel record. “Anyhow, I will try again, and will create a good international travel footprint,” she wrote.
The post drew several reactions online. One Reddit user commented that New York is an expensive destination, with hotels in Manhattan costing $300–400 per night during the festive season, along with high airfare and food expenses. Another remarked that her “age, lack of ties, and no travel history” likely placed her in the risk category for visa officers, making rejection more probable.
