Leela Jose from Kerala proves adventure knows no age, inspiring millions with her daring leap from Dubai skies
A 70-year-old homemaker from Konnathady, Idukki, Leela Jose, recently skydived from 13,000 feet in Dubai, becoming one of the oldest Indian women to attempt the feat. Her adventurous leap has gone viral, capturing hearts across social media, reported hindustantimes.com.
Leela revealed that she had often joked about skydiving with friends, who dismissed it as impossible. During a visit to Dubai to meet her son, Aneesh P Jose, she decided to turn her long-held dream into reality. Initially skeptical, her son contacted a skydiving team in Dubai, only for the crew to be surprised when Leela herself arrived, determined to jump.
Reflecting on her journey, Leela credited her late husband, a bank officer, for encouraging her adventurous spirit and supporting her curiosity to explore new things
The day of the jump was unforgettable. “I had this huge urge to jump, so I just kept quiet,” she recalled. Leaping into the sky, she soared over Dubai’s stunning landscape. “I saw the sea. I thought if anything happens, I’ll jump into the water and swim, because I know swimming,” she said. “It was a beautiful sight… an incredible experience.”
Leela’s adventurous streak isn’t new; she previously tried ziplining in Wayanad and paragliding in Fujairah. Reflecting on her life, she said, “I raised two children, and I have two grandchildren now. I have lived enough. Whatever I have from now on is a bonus. It is time to enjoy the rest of my life. There is nothing to be scared about.”
Embracing her fearless spirit, Leela concluded, “I am ready to go to space. Why not? There is no age to dream.”
