MoU signed between India and Kuwait
Indian expatriates living in Kuwait expressed happiness over a recent agreement between India and Kuwait in which Indian workers living in Kuwait will now get legal protection.
India and Kuwait signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which Indian domestic workers working in this Gulf country will be brought under the purview of the law and they will be entitled to legal protection.
The signatories to the MoU were Indian Ambassador Sibi George and Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majdi Ahmed al Darifi. Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Ahmed Nasser al Muhammad al Sabah were present during the signing event.
The MoU is significant because more than one million Indians live in Kuwait.
Jaishankar arrived in Kuwait on Thursday on his first visit to Kuwait as foreign minister. India is one of Kuwait’s largest trading partners and Kuwait is a major supplier of oil to India.
Foreign ministers of both the countries welcomed MoU which guarantees a mechanism in coming days that will provide 24×7 help to the domestic workers.
