Indians across the globe celebrate 77th Independence Day of India with patriotic zeal

On August 15, Indians around the globe marked India’s 77th Independence Day with enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. Across diplomatic missions, members of the Indian diaspora gathered to exchange greetings, sing the national anthem, and engage in celebratory activities.

MUSCAT (Sultanate of Oman)

The 77th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Oman with an unparalleled display of enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. The Embassy of India illuminated in the tricolor on the eve of Independence Day set the tone for the grand festivities that followed.

On the morning of August 15, a flag hoisting ceremony was orchestrated at the embassy premises to commemorate India’s Independence Day. Indian Ambassador to Oman, Amit Narang unfurled the tricolor amidst the presence of the vibrant Indian community. Everyone present took part in the resounding chorus of the National Anthem. The event was further embellished by the melodious voices of students from the Indian School Seeb, who delivered soul-stirring renditions of patriotic melodies.

Ambassador Amit Narang, in his address to the attendees, shared inspiring excerpts from the President of India’s message to the Nation. He extended a heartfelt invitation to all to actively participate in India’s ongoing journey of growth and self-reliance, emphasizing the importance of propagating India’s message of peace and development to the world.

Drawing attention to Mission LiFE, a pioneering initiative launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ambassador Narang highlighted the significance of incorporating small yet impactful changes into daily lives, which collectively contribute to safeguarding the environment and nurturing a sustainable future.

As a tribute to the ‘International Year of Millets’ in 2023, a dedicated counter was arranged at the embassy premises, spotlighting Indian millets as a solution to food security challenges and promoters of holistic health.

In a parallel celebration, the students of Indian School Al Ghubra showcased the vibrant tapestry of Indian culture through a captivating cultural event. The event was a testament to India’s glorious past and promising future, and the students’ performances mesmerizingly encapsulated the essence of India’s rich heritage.

The festivities in Oman echoed the profound greatness of India’s civilization and the unwavering commitment of Indians towards the nation’s unity and integrity. It was an ode to India’s transformative journey over the past 76 years, from its inception as a nation to its current status as a beacon of global growth and development. The celebrations also emphasized the enduring partnership between India and Oman, underscoring the strong bond between the people of both nations.

Washington (US)

In Washington, the Biden administration joined Indian Americans in commemorating the occasion. Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed the deep and expansive nature of the bilateral relationship between the United States and India, emphasizing its strength and growth.

Beijing (China)

In Beijing, the Indian embassy and the Indian diaspora united in celebration. A special event included a captivating play titled “Unsung,” featuring a cast of children. The play honored the sacrifices and courage of India’s unsung female heroes, utilizing various theatrical elements to bring their extraordinary stories to life.

During the celebrations, a video highlighting India’s presidency of the G20 was showcased, emphasizing the diverse themes, initiatives, and the inclusive and ambitious approach of India’s leadership.

In Shanghai, India’s Consul General, N Nandakumar, hoisted the tricolor flag at the Consulate General of India. He also read out President Droupadi Murmu’s address to the nation, symbolizing the unity of Indians in Shanghai.

AUSTRALIA

Similarly, in Australia, High Commissioner Manpreet Vohra raised the tricolor flag and read President Murmu’s address. Indian diaspora members shared their experiences of growing up in India and presented cultural performances in regional languages. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese conveyed his best wishes to the Indian community in Australia and highlighted the enriching contributions of Indian Australians to the nation.

FRANCE

French President Emmanuel Macron extended solidarity and congratulations to the Indian people on their Independence Day. He reaffirmed France’s commitment to being a trusted friend and partner to India, recalling recent bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Modi during his visit to France.

SINGAPORE

Singapore’s Acting High Commissioner Pooja M. Tillu led over 1,000 Indian diaspora members and community participants in celebrating Independence Day at the chancery. The event featured the INS Kulish band playing musical renditions and patriotic songs, accompanied by students from local Indian schools.

NEPAL

Foreign Minister of Nepal NP Saud conveyed warm greetings to India on its 77th Independence Day, underscoring the strong bonds between the two nations.

SRI LANKA

In Sri Lanka, High Commissioner Gopal Baglay and officers of the High Commission of India paid tribute to the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) Memorial. This memorial stands as a tribute to the brave Indian soldiers of the IPKF who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of peace and unity in Sri Lanka.

As India marked its 77th year of independence, the global Indian diaspora celebrated the country’s achievements, sacrifices, and shared democratic values, fostering a sense of unity and pride among Indians worldwide.
