The Assam government’s proactive stance reflects broader national concerns over illegal immigration and its implications for local demographics and resources
The recent incident involving Assam Police thwarting an illegal infiltration attempt by two Bangladeshi nationals underscores India’s stringent vigilance along its border with Bangladesh, daijiworld.com said.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that the individuals, identified as Nur Mohammed and Muhammed Khaleda Begum, were intercepted and promptly sent back to Bangladesh, demonstrating Assam’s commitment to maintaining border security.
Taking to social media, CM Sarma commended the state police for their alertness and highlighted the increased security measures along the Indo-Bangladesh border following unrest in Bangladesh.
With continued efforts to bolster border surveillance and enforcement, Assam aims to safeguard its sovereignty and socio-political stability
He emphasized the improbability of infiltrators enrolling in Assam’s voter list due to rapid detection and expulsion efforts. According to him, most detected infiltrators are apprehended and deported within hours of crossing into Indian territory, minimizing the risk of illegal voter registration.
Nevertheless, Sarma advocated for heightened vigilance and outlined plans to implement additional measures to address potential gaps in border security.
He attributed the infiltration attempts to economic challenges in Bangladesh, exacerbated by political instability following the exit of the Sheikh Hasina-led government. The Chief Minister noted that the majority of infiltrators are reportedly Muslim individuals seeking job opportunities in India.
