Jaishankar Charts Strategic Roadmap with Indian Envoys in the US
India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar chaired a high-level conference of Indian Consuls General in the United States, using the platform to review the broad spectrum of bilateral ties between New Delhi and Washington, media reports said.
The meeting, held at the Consulate General of India in New York, brought together senior diplomats responsible for India’s outreach across major American cities and economic hubs.
Jaishankar emphasised that India–US relations continue to expand across strategic, technological, and economic domains, supported by an increasingly active and influential Indian diaspora. He commended the Indian Embassy in Washington and the network of Consulates for their efforts in building deeper linkages with local communities, government officials, and business partners.

- The discussions also reaffirmed India’s intention to remain proactive in engaging the diaspora, whose growing influence in business, academia, and public life continues to shape perceptions of India in the US
The conference was attended by India’s Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra, Deputy Chief of Mission Namgya Khampa, and the Consuls General from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and New York. The gathering focused on diaspora engagement, consular services, and strengthening bilateral initiatives in innovation, health, defence collaboration, and education.
The Consulate in New York described the visit as an “honour,” adding that Jaishankar’s guidance reinforces their commitment to elevating the India–US partnership. His interaction, structured around strategy and on-ground diplomatic execution, highlighted the importance India places on its envoys as frontline representatives in one of its most dynamic foreign policy relationships.
A day earlier, Jaishankar met United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres at the UN Headquarters. India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador P. Harish, and senior mission officials joined the meeting, which touched upon global peacekeeping, geopolitical tensions, and multilateral reforms.
