India’s skies and seas are about to merge in an exciting new way
-
Initial routes will link cities such as Mumbai, Goa, Kochi, and the Andamans
Leading airlines including Air India, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, British Airways, and Etihad Airways are partnering with Amphibian Aerospace Industries and Apogee Aerospace to launch seaplane services. These amphibious planes, such as the Albatross 2.0, can take off and land on water or land, opening up remote beaches, islands, and backwaters.
No longer will travellers face crowded airports or long drives to reach spots like Goa’s sandy shores, Kerala’s lagoons, or the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Initial routes will link cities such as Mumbai, Goa, Kochi, and the Andamans. International connections from hubs like Dubai, London, Doha, Singapore, and New York will make these destinations far easier to visit.
Airlines Lead the Charge
Air India will spearhead affordable domestic hops, while Qatar Airways and Emirates bring luxury touches for global flyers. Singapore Airlines, British Airways, and Etihad will add their renowned service, turning flights into scenic adventures with views of sparkling waters and green landscapes. This first-of-its-kind setup in India promises quicker trips and fresh ways to see the country’s beauty.
Boost for Hotels and Local Economies
Remote resorts in Kerala, Goa, Lakshadweep, and the Andamans are preparing for more guests. Luxury spots offer seamless transfers from water terminals, but smaller guesthouses and homestays will also thrive. Better access means more visitors to undervisited areas, sparking jobs and sustainable tourism.
Tips for Seaplane Travellers
- Arrive early for checks at water terminals.
- Watch weather updates, as wind or storms may delay flights.
- Pack light for short scenic hops.
- Book ahead, especially in peak seasons.
- Honour local customs in these cultural hotspots.
Schedules will start with Qatar Airways from Doha to Goa and Kochi, Singapore Airlines to Kerala, and Emirates to Andaman spots. More routes follow soon.
This move will transform India’s tourism, blending adventure, culture, and ease. From beach escapes to heritage sites like Varanasi or Jaipur, seaplanes make it all smoother.
