“We are aiming for quality tourists who stay longer and contribute more to the local economy.”
— Indonesian Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno
In an exciting move to bolster tourism and stimulate the economy, Indonesia is set to offer free entry visas to travelers from 20 countries, including India. This initiative, announced by Indonesian Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno, is part of a broader plan to enhance the country’s appeal to international visitors.
Minister Uno confirmed last week that the visa exemption policy is on schedule and will be finalized before the government transitions in October 2024. He emphasized that providing free entry visas is expected to significantly increase foreign tourist arrivals, generating a positive ripple effect on the economy. The policy aims to boost domestic consumption, attract investment, and foster the growth of the digital economy.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, tourists spent around $900 (approximately Rs 75,151) per person. Currently, this figure has risen to about $1,600 (approximately Rs 133,601). Minister Uno highlighted, “We are aiming for quality tourists who stay longer and contribute more to the local economy.”

- Australia
