ISC’s Sanskrit Wing celebrates Varsha-Pratipada Utsav in Muscat

Embodying the essence of gratitude towards mother nature, Varsha – Pratipada marks the onset of the Hindu New Year and the arrival of the Vasant Ritu, or the season of spring

In a jubilant display of cultural richness and community spirit, the Indian Social Club’s (ISC) Sanskrit Wing recently hosted the 7th edition of Varsha-Pratipada Utsav, heralding the Indian New Year on April 20, 2024.

The event unfolded at the esteemed ‘Oman Hall’ of the College of Banking and Financial Studies in Bowsher, Muscat, Oman, drawing together a diverse tapestry of traditions and talent under one roof.

Gracing the occasion as the honourable Chief Guest Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, congratulated the Sanskrit Wing for organizing Varsha –  Pratipada festival with the involvement of the Indian community, particularly children giving them exposure to the rich cultural heritage of India.

The Ambassador lauded the efforts of the Sanskrit Wing for orchestrating such a grand celebration, particularly emphasizing the involvement of children in such cultural events, which fosters a deeper connection to their heritage.

Pankaj Joshi and Sandeep Pingale, Convener and Co-Convener respectively of the ISC-Sanskrit Wing, called the event marking Varsha – Pratipada Utsav as a beacon of India’s rich cultural heritage, showcasing a kaleidoscope of traditions from various states including Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh/ Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Bihar.

“The festivities commenced with Shobha-Yatra, a colorful procession featuring 120 children from diverse age groups along with 80 enthusiastic parents, setting the tone for a day filled with exuberance and camaraderie,” they said.

It serves as a poignant reminder of the cosmic balance that underpins existence, urging reverence and preservation of the natural world.

The event unfolded under the guidance of Ajay Ganti, the mentor of the ISC-Sanskrit Wing and CEO of Al Maha Ceramic, whose welcoming address set the stage for an evening of cultural immersion and entertainment.

Distinguished guests at the event included, Jayapal Dethe, Second Secretary of the Indian Embassy, Babu Rajendran, Chairman of the Indian Social Club, and Shakeel, ISC General Secretary.

The event also saw the participation of prominent figures from various sectors, including Balaji Srinivasan, founder MD and Group CEO of Towell Engineering Group; Anil Bhai Wadher, Director of Intisar Corporation; Hiriyanna Narayanaswamy, CFO of Al Maha Petroleum Products; and a host of other dignitaries, reflecting the broad spectrum of support and engagement within the Indian community.

With an audience of 800 members from the Indian community, the cultural and musical program captivated hearts and minds alike, with renowned Bollywood stars Sanjay Mishra and Navneet Nishan gracing the event.

The 7th edition of Varsha – Pratipada Utsav stands not only as a celebration of tradition but also as a testament to the vibrant spirit and unity of the Indian community in Muscat, reaffirming their commitment to preserving and promoting their cultural heritage for generations to come.
