This day encourages the expression of gratitude and appreciation beyond personal circles, fostering a sense of community and universal solidarity.
The Indian Social Club Oman’s Sanskrit Wing recently celebrated Vishwa Sanskrit Dinam (World Sanskrit Day) and Vishwa Bandhutava Divas (Universal Oneness Day) on August 30, 2024, at the Club’s hall in Darsait, Muscat.
The event, attended by 250 people, aimed to promote and revive Sanskrit, the ancient Indian language rich in philosophy, spirituality, and humanist literature.
Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The celebration of World Sanskrit Day is part of an annual initiative by the Sanskrit Wing to instill ancient wisdom in the younger generation. “Learning and teaching Sanskrit is vital for our national development,” said Ambassador Amit Narang.
“I am particularly pleased to see so many children here, and I commend the Sanskrit Wing and Sanskrit Bharati for organizing workshops for both kids and adults, ensuring this valuable knowledge is carried forward,” he said.
The event also celebrated Vishwa Bandhutava Divas, which aligns with the Indian philosophical concept of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family).
Reflecting on the significance of the day, Pankaj Joshi, the Hon. Convenor of the ISC-Sanskrit Wing, stated, “The celebration of World Sanskrit Day and Universal Oneness Day is not just about honoring a language but also about fostering a sense of global unity and peace.” The program concluded with a recitation of the Shanti Mantra, symbolizing peace and harmony within society.
As a symbolic gesture of mutual protection and unity, attendees tied Raksha Sutras (Rakhis) to one another, reinforcing a sense of value and worth within the community. Such acts of giving back contribute to a happier, healthier, and more sustainable society.
The program featured various activities, including a keynote address by Ambalavanan, a member of the Board of Directors of the Indian School in Oman
Premila Ramesh and her students performed an Indian classical dance, adding a cultural flavor to the celebration. The event also showcased the talents of over 300 students from seven different Indian schools who participated in various Sanskrit competitions, with 50 students emerging as winners in six categories.
Shakeel, Hon. General Secretary of the Indian Social Club, along with other dignitaries like Anil Bhai Wadher, MD, Intisar Corporation, Kishore Bhai Mehta, Director, Intisar Corporation, Damodar Katti, and Uma Maheshwar Rao, distributed prizes to the winners.
