Italian Dy PM Antonio Tajani meets President Droupadi Murmu

Strengthening centuries-old ties, India and Italy eye deeper collaboration in trade, technology, and education.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy, H.E. Mr. Antonio Tajani, paid a courtesy call on the President of India,  Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Welcoming the visiting dignitary and his delegation, the President highlighted the deep-rooted civilizational bonds that have historically connected India and Italy through trade, cultural exchanges, and shared artistic and philosophical traditions.

President Murmu emphasized the contemporary relevance of the partnership, noting how both nations are now working side by side on emerging technologies, defense cooperation, and innovation. She also praised the productive collaboration witnessed on multilateral platforms like the G20.

President Murmu underscored the vast potential for growth in bilateral trade and investment, especially in light of India’s ambitious ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision.

 She extended a warm invitation to Italian companies and public sector enterprises to expand their footprint in India, particularly in the areas of manufacturing, co-production, and green technology solutions.

Referring to the Joint Strategic Action Plan announced during the meeting between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Rio, November 2024, the President described it as a crucial roadmap to steer Indo-Italian cooperation over the next five years. She expressed confidence that the plan would serve as a catalyst for accelerating collaborative efforts across sectors.

The President also welcomed the increasing academic engagement between Italian universities and Indian institutions. Highlighting the New Education Policy’s provision for foreign universities to establish campuses in India, she encouraged Italian universities to seize the opportunity and set up academic outposts on Indian soil.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to elevating the India-Italy Strategic Partnership to greater heights, underlining mutual trust and shared global goals as key drivers for future cooperation.
