Italy has announced a broad range of scholarship opportunities for Indian students planning to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate studies in 2026, strengthening its position as a popular European education destination. The announcement was highlighted by YES Italy, an education consultancy that specialises in guiding international students toward higher education opportunities in Italy.

In recent years, Italy has steadily attracted Indian students due to its combination of affordable public university tuition fees, generous scholarship options, and globally recognised academic programmes. Compared to several other European destinations, public universities in Italy charge relatively low annual fees while offering both government-funded and university-level financial aid. This makes high-quality international education accessible to a wider pool of students.

  • Italian universities are known for their academic rigour, research-oriented learning environment, and strong links with industry
  • These factors contribute to promising post-study employability prospects, particularly in sectors where Italy has global influence
  • Popular fields among Indian and other international students include engineering, architecture, design, medicine, business studies, and humanities

For the 2026 intake, several leading Italian institutions are offering substantial financial support. The University of Bologna’s Unibo Action scheme provides International Talents and Merit Scholarships of up to €11,000 per year, with full tuition fee waivers available in selected cases. Politecnico di Milano is offering Excellence Scholarships ranging from €5,000 to €10,000 annually, along with partial or full tuition waivers, particularly for Master’s programmes in engineering, architecture, and design. Politecnico di Torino is extending scholarships of €4,000 to €8,000 per year with tuition reductions for technical disciplines.

The University of Padua’s International Excellence Scholarship Programme stands out by covering full tuition fees and offering an annual allowance of €7,000 to €8,000. Bocconi University in Milan is also offering merit-based and international awards worth €12,000 to €13,000 per year, including tuition waivers and financial aid for Bachelor’s, Master’s, and MBA programmes. Other institutions such as Sapienza University of Rome, the University of Milan, the University of Trento, the University of Pavia, and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore are offering scholarships ranging from €3,000 to €8,000 annually, along with varying tuition fee reductions.

Indian students with strong academic records who meet university-specific merit or financial criteria are eligible to apply for these opportunities. Scholarships are available across Bachelor’s, Master’s, MBA, and PhD levels, often including additional allowances to support living expenses.
