In a significant diplomatic endeavor, the External Affairs Minister (EAM) of India, Dr. S. Jaishankar, is set to spearhead the Indian delegation at the 19th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Kampala, Uganda, from January 19 to 20, 2024. The summit, held under the theme ‘Deepening Cooperation for Shared Global Affluence,’ will bring together over 120 developing countries, marking a crucial historic gathering.

Dr. Jaishankar’s participation underscores India’s unwavering commitment to the principles and values of NAM as one of its leading and founding members. Minister of State for External Affairs, Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, will represent India at the NAM Foreign Ministers’ meeting preceding the summit, while V. Muraleedharan will attend the G-77 Third South Summit in Kampala from January 21 to 22, 2024.

As India continues to strengthen its diplomatic presence, these diplomatic initiatives are poised to enhance global cooperation, deepen regional partnerships, and contribute to shared affluence on the international stage

During the NAM Summit, EAM is anticipated to engage with the Ugandan leadership and counterparts from NAM member states, fostering collaborative efforts towards shared global prosperity.

Simultaneously, Dr. Jaishankar will embark on an official visit to Nigeria from January 21 to 23, 2024. The visit aims to fortify the longstanding and amicable relations between India and Nigeria. Notably, EAM will co-chair the 6th India-Nigeria Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) and participate in various high-level interactions.

The multifaceted agenda includes inaugurating the 3rd edition of the Nigeria-India Business Council meeting, delivering a speech at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, interacting with CII Business delegates, inaugurating the bust of Mahatma Gandhi, and chairing the regional conference of Indian Heads of Missions.

This visit holds particular significance as it marks Dr. Jaishankar’s first official trip to Nigeria, symbolizing a key milestone in further consolidating the bilateral ties between the two nations. As India continues to strengthen its diplomatic presence, these diplomatic initiatives are poised to enhance global cooperation, deepen regional partnerships, and contribute to shared affluence on the international stage.
