Pakistan is hosting this year’s SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting, a key forum for fostering economic and security cooperation among member nations, including India, China, and Russia
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will head India’s delegation to Pakistan for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, scheduled for October 15-16 in Islamabad, hindustantimes.com reported.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) made this announcement on Friday, confirming India’s participation in the high-level regional event.
Jaishankar’s visit to Pakistan comes nearly a month after his strong statements at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), where he condemned Pakistan for its ongoing cross-border terrorism. During his UNGA address on September 28, Jaishankar highlighted how countries like Pakistan have chosen paths that lead to disastrous consequences.
He remarked, “Many countries fall behind due to uncontrollable circumstances, but some, like our neighbor Pakistan, make conscious choices that invite disaster.”
Despite strained relations, India’s participation in this summit underscores the importance of the regional organization and its potential role in addressing security and economic challenges
The Indian minister further criticized Pakistan’s policies, stating that its focus on extremism has severely impacted its economy, while its exports of terrorism have backfired, creating instability within its own borders.
In response to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s speech at the UNGA, Jaishankar made it clear that India remains resolute against Pakistan’s support of terrorism. “Pakistan’s cross-border terrorism policy will never succeed, and it can have no expectation of impunity. Consequences will follow its actions,” he emphasized.
