Japanese automotive components major Aisin Corporation is set to strengthen its presence in India with plans to build two new auto parts manufacturing facilities. The move underlines India’s growing importance in the global automotive supply chain and reflects rising demand for automatic vehicles in the country.

Aisin, a leading Tier-1 supplier to global carmakers, will expand its existing plant in Rohtak, Haryana, and set up a brand-new manufacturing unit in Sambhajinagar in Maharashtra. Together, the projects involve a planned investment of around ¥32 billion (approximately US$230 million), with production expected to begin by 2029.

  • At the Rohtak facility, Aisin will increase capacity for advanced components, particularly continuously variable transmissions (CVTs)

  • CVTs are gaining popularity in India as more buyers shift from manual to automatic vehicles, driven by urban traffic conditions and changing consumer preferences

  • The expansion will help boost local production of high-value drivetrain systems and reduce dependence on imports

The new plant in Sambhajinagar, formerly known as Aurangabad, will focus on manufacturing automatic transmissions and other automotive parts. This facility is expected to cater to both domestic carmakers and export markets, supporting Aisin’s wider global operations. The choice of Maharashtra reflects the state’s strong industrial ecosystem and improving infrastructure.

Aisin’s expansion comes at a time when India’s automotive market is seeing steady growth, especially in passenger vehicles with automatic gearboxes. The company has also benefited from supportive policy measures, including earlier assistance from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to promote overseas production of advanced components.
