The cyber police in Jhunjhunu have arrested Kishanaram, a resident of Jogsar, Jodhpur, in a ₹12 lakh cheating case involving NRI Indu Sharma. Sharma, originally from Pilani and currently residing in Australia, fell victim to the scam after her deactivated mobile number was misused by the culprits, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

Fraudulent Withdrawal of ₹12 Lakh from NRI’s Account

The fraud was masterminded by Bhajnaram, a known history-sheeter from Jodhpur, who exploited Indu Sharma’s deactivated mobile number linked to her ICICI Bank account in Pilani. By redirecting her bank notifications, Bhajnaram gained unauthorized access to her account.

Kishanaram, an e-Mitra operator, collaborated with Bhajnaram to procure a new ATM card in Sharma’s name. Between January 11 and 13, 2024, the duo siphoned off ₹12.31 lakh from her account

Discovery and Investigation

The scam surfaced on January 16, 2024, when Indu Sharma tried withdrawing funds from her account and found discrepancies, including an unapproved ATM card issuance. She reported the matter to the cyber police on January 19, prompting an in-depth investigation.

After identifying the culprits, the police launched a manhunt and arrested Kishanaram in Jodhpur. He is currently under interrogation, with authorities hopeful that his statements will help track down Bhajnaram and uncover further details about the operation.

Warning About Digital Banking Risks

This case highlights the potential risks of digital banking and the need for safeguarding personal information, particularly for NRIs. The cyber police have emphasized the importance of vigilance and reporting suspicious activity promptly.
