Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University marks first convocation

The Odisha Governor congratulated the graduates and asked them to become a crucial tool for making India self-dependent (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) through their participation and endeavours.

Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) Deemed to be University, Bhubaneswar marked its first convocation ceremony in virtual mode on Sunday (June 27 2021).

Prof Ganeshi Lal, Governor of the Indian state of Odisha, delivered a convocation address and exhorted tribal youths of Odisha to make the ‘Vocal for Local’ their resolution.

“There is no shortage of talents in tribal communities. Right environment, encouragement and timely exposure is the need of the hour,” he said.

 

The Governor congratulated the graduates and asked them to become a crucial tool for making India self-dependent (Aatmanirbhar Bharat) through their participation and endeavours.

 

Prof Ganeshi was all praise for university founder Dr Achyuta Samanta and called KISS an institution built by sheer love and passion that drew global attention.

“It was the idea of an equitable world that propelled Dr Samanta to a great extent. What has been achieved with the love, compassion, dedication and determination of one individual is indeed remarkable,” the Governor said. He also received Honoris Causa Degree of D.Litt. from KISS Deemed to be University.

The occasion marked conferring of Honoris Causa Degrees of D.Litt. upon three other eminent personalities from Odisha.

Girish Chandra Murmu, Comptroller and Auditor General of India; Dr Swarup Ranjan Mishra, Member of Parliament for Kesses Constituency, Kenya and Founding Chairman, Mediheal Group of Hospitals, Kenya; and Shri Bibhu Mohapatra, Fashion Designer and Costume Designer, New York, received the degrees.

Welcoming the gathering and dignitaries, Dr Achyuta Samanta said, “KISS has indirectly impacted over a million tribal children and youth, which is in itself a milestone in the history of tribal empowerment.”

“It’s the story of a dream-come-true which took off with 125 students on board in 1992-93 and has today become an inspiring tale of transformation beyond even my imagination. Development of education is the development of the country”, Dr Samanta said.
