A yoga teacher from Karnataka, Pradeep Ullal, has been arrested following allegations of rape by a US-based Non-Resident Indian (NRI). The complainant, who resides in California, reported to the police that she had been sexually assaulted by Ullal after attending his online yoga classes for several years.

According to the complaint, Ullal manipulated the woman into believing that they shared a spiritual connection from a past life, discussing themes of “spirituality, energy work, and divine love.”

Ullal, who is currently based in Bengaluru, previously lived and worked in Dubai, where he began teaching yoga. Upon returning to India, he purchased three acres of land in Chikkamagaluru district in 2010 and established a yoga center.

The woman further stated that she became pregnant as a result of the assaults but suffered a miscarriage.

The Chikkamagaluru rural police have registered a case against Ullal under Section 376(2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to repeated rape of the same woman.
