The Government of Kerala has issued a revised document checklist for students seeking admission to medical courses under the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) quota. The updated guidelines were announced through Government Order G.O.(Rt) No.191/2026/H&FWD by the Health and Family Welfare Department and have come into effect immediately.
The revision aims to simplify procedures and address practical issues faced by NRI families, especially those living in Gulf countries. The changes are based on recommendations from the Admission Supervisory Committee and the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), following feedback from previous admission cycles.
Under the revised order, candidates must continue to submit all documents that were previously required. However, some important additions and clarifications have now been introduced
One key change relates to proof of residence abroad. In cases where passport visas are not stamped, such as in the United Arab Emirates, a valid Resident Identity Card will now be accepted instead of visa stamping.
The government has also clarified rules regarding employment proof of the NRI sponsor. A Resident Identity Card or a Golden Visa will be treated as valid evidence of employment and residency abroad. This move is expected to ease documentation hurdles for families where traditional employment letters are not easily available.
Another significant update concerns sponsorship certificates. Documents attested by Indian embassies or authorised officials abroad will be considered valid for six months from the date of attestation. If there is any mismatch or discrepancy in the sponsor’s name across submitted documents, authorities will verify the details and seek an explanation before taking a final decision, rather than rejecting applications outright.
