The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, set to take place in Odisha from January 8 to 10, 2025, will witness the largest-ever Indian diaspora delegation from Oman. Over 300 members, including representatives from community groups, business leaders, and prominent figures within Oman’s Indian community, have registered to participate.

The delegation was ceremoniously flagged off on January 5, 2025, by Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, at the Embassy of India in Muscat. During the event, Ambassador Narang unveiled a specially designed logo titled “PRAVASI FROM OMAN,” which symbolizes the enduring journey of the Indian diaspora in Oman and their connection to India. Participants were also felicitated with merchandise kits bearing the logo.

Highlighting Diaspora Achievements:

  • Two distinguished members of Oman’s Indian diaspora will serve as panel speakers at the convention. Mohiuddin Mohammad Ali, Vice Chairman of Galfar Engineering & Contracting SAOG, will participate in Plenary Session 1 on ‘Diaspora Youth Leadership

  • Aishwarya Hegde, Founder Director of Deepam Odissi Academy, will speak during Plenary Session 5 on ‘Diaspora Dialogues: Stories of Culture, Connection, and Belonging’

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Narang emphasized the significance of the PBD platform. “Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is an important platform for our diaspora to reconnect with Bharat and contribute meaningfully to its developmental journey. I encourage all of you to make the most of this visit and represent the Indian community in Oman with pride,” he said.

Special Exhibition on Diaspora Archives

A highlight of PBD 2025 will be a special exhibition curated by the National Archives of India, showcasing digitized records that chronicle the historical journey of the Indian diaspora in Oman.

The exhibition—a result of a landmark project by the Embassy of India in Muscat—features over 7,000 records in English, Arabic, Gujarati, and Hindi. These records were sourced from the private collections of long-established Indian merchant families in Oman.

A senior delegation from the Hindu Mahajan families, whose documents form a part of this initiative, will attend the exhibition, marking a proud moment of recognition for the Indian diaspora in Oman.
