Abdul Raheem Abdulla appreciates India’s technological advancements, seeks collaboration for Maldives Parliament
NEW DELHI: Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Speaker of the People’s Majlis of Maldives, led a high-level delegation to India, witnessing parliamentary proceedings and engaging in discussions on technological collaboration. Maldives Seeks Indian Support for Digitisation
After observing the digital innovations in the Indian Parliament, Abdulla expressed admiration for India’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) in legislative processes. He specifically requested Om Birla’s assistance in digitising the archives of the Maldives Parliament to enhance its operational efficiency. In response, Birla assured Abdulla of India’s commitment to extending every possible technological support.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
During discussions, Birla recalled his previous meeting with Abdulla at the IPU Assembly in Geneva in October last year. He emphasized the deep-rooted cultural, economic, and trade relations between India and the Maldives. Highlighting India’s commitment to its maritime neighbor, he stated that “Maldives is not only a friendly neighbor but also a key pillar of India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and ‘Vision SAGAR’.”

Earlier in the day, welcoming the Maldivian delegation, Birla stated, “I am pleased to announce that in the distinguished box of our House, the parliamentary delegation from the Republic of Maldives is present.

He further emphasized that their visit reflects the growing diplomatic and strategic partnership between the two nations, reinforcing bilateral cooperation in governance, technology, and regional security.
