Many people were stranded in flood-hit Piproudha village in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, with some even atop trees. While five persons were rescued, authorities made efforts to save others stranded on a tree following heavy rains.
Rain-affected Shivpuri, Sheopur, Bhind and Datia districts are under constant watch.
Defence aircraft were pressed into service to evacuate people, but due to heavy rains and bad weather, the aircraft were unable to fly.
Four helicopters had reached Shivpuri to evacuate people from three flooded villages, collector Akshay Kumar Singh said on Monday.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were in action, and the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was also taking updates from them on the ongoing rescue operation.
