Indian-origin lawyer brings legal expertise and cultural pride to one of Ohio’s top legal roles
Indian-origin attorney Mathura Sridharan has been appointed as the 12th Solicitor General of Ohio, the state’s lead advocate in appeals before the state and federal courts. The announcement was made by Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, who praised Sridharan’s legal acumen and dedication to constitutional principles, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
“Mathura is a relentless defender of Ohioans, a champion of federalism and a legal force to be reckoned with in a courtroom,” Yost said. “Her brilliant legal mind and masterful understanding of constitutional law make her the obvious choice to lead the team as Ohio’s Solicitor General.”
Before her elevation, Sridharan served as Deputy Solicitor General in the same office. She also heads Ohio’s Tenth Amendment Center, spearheading legal challenges against federal overreach on behalf of the state’s residents. Her legal résumé includes appearances before the Ohio Supreme Court, U.S. Supreme Court, and multiple federal appellate courts.
With a background in law, engineering, and public service, Mathura Sridharan is set to become a trailblazer in Ohio’s legal landscape

An accomplished academic, Sridharan holds dual degrees—a Bachelor’s and a Master’s—in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She earned her Juris Doctor from the New York University School of Law in 2018.
Beyond the courtroom, Sridharan is known for blending her Indian heritage with American life.
