Operating from a lavish office on Barakhamba Road in New Delhi, the accused, Rajeev Kumar, allegedly targeted Class XII passouts, especially those who had not succeeded in their initial attempts
In a startling case of fraud, an MBA graduate operated an extensive racket, preying on the aspirations of young school graduates and their families by promising MBBS seats in top medical colleges through the NRI quota, Times of India reported.
Operating from a lavish office on Barakhamba Road in New Delhi, the accused, Rajeev Kumar, allegedly targeted Class XII passouts, especially those who had not succeeded in their initial attempts.
The modus operandi involved procuring the details of potential victims through various channels, followed by individual contact by telecallers affiliated with the gang. When the victims approached the police, the suspect, declared an absconder by a court, went underground. However, a dedicated team led by ACP Atul Verma and SHO successfully located and apprehended Rajeev Kumar in a Greater Noida society.
With the assistance of technical surveillance and a tip-off, law enforcement successfully apprehended Rajeev Kumar from a flat in the Gaur City II society in Greater Noida. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on dismantling the entire fraudulent operation
The accused has been subjected to interrogation regarding other members of the gang, who are currently being traced. The alleged scams date back to 2015, with complainant Nikhil Yadav revealing that Kumar promised him an MBBS seat in a Maharashtra medical college for a nominal fee. Despite paying Rs 2.5 lakh as facilitation charges, Yadav neither secured a seat nor received a refund.
Another victim, Atoki Jimomi, residing in Vasant Kunj, accused Kumar of taking Rs 25 lakh under the pretext of securing admission to an MD/MS course in the previous year. Jimomi handed over original educational certificates and the agreed amount but did not receive the promised admission or a refund. A third complainant, Vinay Kumar, was defrauded of Rs 6.7 lakh by Kumar, who claimed to be the director of a company named Medical Worldwide.
The accused frequently visited Bengaluru, Maharashtra, and Greater Noida. With the assistance of technical surveillance and a tip-off, law enforcement successfully apprehended Rajeev Kumar from a flat in the Gaur City II society in Greater Noida. The investigation is ongoing, focusing on dismantling the entire fraudulent operation.
