In the quiet city of Salalah, Oman, amidst the azure waters of the Arabian Sea and the lush greenery of its landscapes, resides a young prodigy whose voice transcends linguistic boundaries.

Sanchita Agte is a 17-year-old high school graduate whose passion for music knows no bounds.

Sanchita’s musical journey commenced at the tender age of 8, when she first discovered the enchanting power of melody. Since then, her voice has graced countless cultural programmes, ceremonies in temples and gurudwaras, and competitions held by her school and the Indian Social Club.

Despite no familial background in music, Sanchita’s innate talent was nurtured and supported wholeheartedly by her parents, who recognised her passion and dedication from the outset.

What sets Sanchita apart is her remarkable ability to sing in a multitude of languages—15 to be precise. From her mother tongue Marathi to languages as diverse as Arabic, English, Russian, and beyond, Sanchita effortlessly weaves her voice through the intricate tapestry of linguistic melodies. When asked about the challenges of singing in different languages, she humbly acknowledges the effort it requires but emphasizes the rewards of stepping out of her comfort zone.

“I admit, it is no easy feat. However, practice makes perfect. I love singing in numerous languages as it forces me out of my comfort zone, but it is highly rewarding as a singer,” she shares with a smile.

For Sanchita, each language holds its own unique musicality and emotion, making it impossible to choose a favorite. Her repertoire spans across genres and cultures, reflecting her deep appreciation for the diverse tapestry of human expression.

“Living abroad, I find myself void of opportunities to improve and grow as a professional singer,” she shares, “but I am thankful for all those who recognised my musical talent and gave me the opportunity to perform on various occasions. Their contributions are equally important in bringing me to this stage, and I am thankful for their support with folded hands of gratitude.”

Despite her undeniable talent, Sanchita remains grounded in her aspirations. While she plans to pursue higher studies in non-musical fields, she harbors a secret dream of pursuing music professionally, should the opportunity arise. Her dedication is evident in the sheer number of performances she has already undertaken—over 30 and counting—a testament to her commitment to her craft.

As she reflects on her journey, Sanchita expresses gratitude not only to her parents but also to the community that has embraced and supported her musical endeavors. She and her parents have special words of praise for Ramdas Kamath, who is not only a music lover, but also a music giver.

“I express my sincere gratitude to Kamath sir for the opportunities he provided to me and guided me how to do well in the field of music,” she said.

She also praised Dr Vandana Jyotirmayee, who is an ace singer, for guiding her in Hindustani music. “Even though my interaction with her was short, it was fruitful in shaping my voice.”

In the heart of Salalah, amidst the whispers of the sea breeze and the rustle of palm fronds, Sanchita Agte continues to serenade the world with her harmonious voice, proving that true talent knows no boundaries, linguistic or otherwise.
