The Australian government’s Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early Professionals Scheme (MATES) is providing an incredible opportunity for Indian professionals aiming to begin their careers in Australia. This initiative offers Indian university graduates and early-career professionals a two-year residency and work opportunity in Australia, allowing them to gain valuable experience in their chosen fields, reported businesstoday.in.

The MATES program allows participants to enter Australia within 12 months of receiving the visa and stay for up to 24 months, with multiple entries permitted during this time. One of the key advantages of the scheme is that applicants are not required to have sponsorship from an Australian employer, making it more accessible for early-career professionals.

Participants can extend their stay by applying for another visa, whether temporary or permanent, if they meet the eligibility criteria.

MATES offers Indian professionals a chance to live and work in Australia for two years, expanding their skills and building a global career in a range of fields

To apply, Indian nationals must be 30 years old or younger, have graduated from an eligible institution within the last two years, and hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in fields such as renewable energy, mining, engineering, IT, AI, fintech, or agricultural technology. Applicants must also have a minimum IELTS score of 6, with no less than 5 in any of the four components.

While participants are not required to work in their field of study, the program is designed to help them expand their professional networks and skills, particularly in the targeted sectors. The MATES pilot, launched in late 2024, offers 3,000 places annually for primary applicants and allows them to bring dependents, who will also have work rights. Dependents do not count toward the annual cap.
