Commenting about the high ticket fares that affected many Indian expat families this summer, the minister said the government “has taken serious note of the issue”
India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, V Muraleedharan was in the UAE recently and said that the government would take steps to increase flight services between India and the UAE to bring down the high ticket fares.
Muraleedharan was speaking to the media after attending a community meeting and Onam celebrations organised by the Indian People’s Forum at the Indian Consulate in Dubai. Commenting about the high ticket fares that affected many Indian expat families this summer, the minister said the government “has taken serious note of the issue”.
Regarding the government’s assistance for families of the Indian expats who had died due to Covid, the minister said the government had already announced a detailed package for Covid assistance and “if any further steps are to be taken, we will definitely consider it when required”
He said he had discussed the matter with the previous and current minister of Civil Aviation on a number of occasiions. He also pointed out that the aviation sector was not regulated by the government and that airfares were largely market-driven.
Nevertheless, the Indian government, according to the Minister, had l taken the initiative to increase the number of flights and would continue with the same approach in the coming peak travel seasons to ensure that ticket fares go down. “We will try to increase the number of flight services like last year by collaborating with the airline companies,” he said.
