The Mumbai police have lost track of Jagpalpreeth Singh, an NRI based in Brussels, who is allegedly involved in the brutal murder of a deaf-mute man. The Pydhonie police are coordinating with Belgian authorities to secure his custody, but sources indicate uncertainty regarding his current legal status, reported mid-day.com.

Singh allegedly guided the accused via video call during the gruesome murder

The case dates back to August 5 last year when Arshad Ali Shaikh, 33, was murdered by his associates Jay Pawan Chawda, 32, and Shivjeet Singh, 34, at a residence in Pydhonie. The duo used a hammer and broken beer bottles to kill Shaikh before stuffing his body into a suitcase. Their attempt to dispose of the corpse on an express train at Dadar platform 11 was foiled by the railway police. Later, Shaikh’s wife, Ruksana, was also arrested in connection with the case.

Authorities struggle to track Singh’s whereabouts despite prior confirmation of his arrest

The Pydhonie police had issued a Blue Corner notice and a lookout circular for Singh. While Belgian authorities initially confirmed his arrest, Indian officials are now unsure if he remains in custody.

A senior officer stated that despite six months of efforts, there has been no recent communication from Belgium or the CBI regarding Singh’s status.

Investigators uncovered Singh’s role in the crime through phone records, which revealed that Chawda and Shivjeet had video-called him on the day of the murder, showing him the crime scene.

The police have filed a 300-page charge sheet emphasizing the need for Singh’s extradition to establish the real motive. They suspect he was either trying to assert dominance in the city or seeking revenge over a suspected affair between Shaikh and his girlfriend.
